Dolby is an integral part of the entertainment experience and this year celebrates its 40th year in cinema.
The last 4 decades have not only witnessed the development of landmark Dolby technologies, but also seen their adoption across different entertainment platforms or “screens”: from cinema, through to TV, PC, mobile, and tablet.
And as consumers increasingly demand a seamless experience, regardless of how or where they enjoy their entertainment, Dolby is committed to helping deliver that entertainment experience across all 5 screens.
Today’s cinema is a feast for the senses. With Dolby Digital Cinema, the detail on-screen is pin-sharp, with vibrant colour and incredible surround sound, whilst Dolby 3D not only gives you amazing sound, but an image so clear that you’ll want to reach out and touch it. And with Dolby Surround 7.1, the action feels real.
In the broadcast sector, in order to make the most of high-definition, the great picture needs equally great audio. In fact, for formats like HDTV and Blu-ray, stunning surround sound is a must-have and that’s what Dolby Digital Plus delivers.
Similarly, the world’s expectation for higher quality audio and video from PC and mobile devices has grown too. From laptops, tablets, and high-end smart phones with 5.1-channel audio to mass-market music phones, the Dolby PC and mobile product portfolios deliver the best possible consumer audio experience for entertainment on-the-go, be it virtual surround sound via headphones or full surround sound audio when connected to a home cinema set-up.
